What is Diversity? And why should you as an employer or job seeker care?

According to the ABA, “racial and ethnic diversity in the legal profession is necessary to demonstrate that our laws are being made and administered for the benefit of all persons.” – American Bar Association

“Diversity” is a word that is thrown around a lot today. At Sacramento Placement Services, we have practiced ‘diversity’ hiring since before it became fashionable. We seek to see each person as a unique individual with a skill set that can be a perfect fit regardless of age, gender, race or ethnicity. Keep in mind, that those very qualities could be what makes you a perfect candidate.

What is the diversity in California?

According to 2018 US Census Bureau estimates, California’s population was 59.5% White (36.6% Non-Hispanic White), 14.7% Asian, 13.8% Some Other Race, 5.8% Black or African American, 0.8% Native Americans and Alaskan Native, 0.4% Pacific Islander and 5.1% from two or more races.

What are diversity employers?

Diversity, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), and Affirmative Action (AA) are three parts toward creating equity in the workplace . Equity in the workplace means that all people have a work environment free from discrimination. Equity creates an even playing field for employee and employer success.

Diversity and equal opportunities policies place a positive duty on all employees to comply with the policy and to ensure that colleagues are treated with respect and dignity.
